Well the 2021 RLC Memberships went on sale today.
There are 2 levels:
- digital membership
- membership with the kit (car)
The membership car is the '70 Mustang Boss 302 and here are the specs from the RLC site:
- Body Color: Spectraflame bright orange
- Deco: Black stripe with red outlines over the middle and on the sides
- Body Type: ZAMAC
- Wheels: Real Riders GT wheels
- Base: Full-metal, matte-black-painted chassis
- Window Color: Light smoke-tinted
- Interior Color: Black
Not bad overall, but nothing compared to the stunning blue one from 2017.
Check out the video on that:
This is the 5th official release of the ’70 Mustang Boss 302. The first 2 were in 2011 in the Vintage Racing series mix. There were also 3 other “code 3” newsletter releases. Last year we saw it as the “Pink Party” car for the Annual LA convention.
At first we wondered how quick they will sell out of the kit, but looks like there are plenty available.
It will be interesting to see how many total members there will be and I'm sure Hot Wheels will never disclose that number.
Also, so many people are whining about bots. Yes, bots will be used... but how many do you think will go to the bots? Especially when they are releasing 20-30k of each car going forward.
To those that whine... have you looked into bots? Have you looked into the cost of getting a bot? Have you looked into the complexity of running a bot? Did you still know that Shopify can block the most basic of bots? If you have, then leave a comment below. If you haven't, do some searching first.
Let's hope for some good castings this year and let's hope that we can all attain them!
In case you are wondering, here is what the back of the card
says on the Mustang.
“The boss is back in town. The ’70 Mustang Boss 302 that is.
Build for the Trans-Am racing series, this street beast was designed to go
headlight-to-headlight against the best race cars of that time. This rendition
stands out with its bright orange Spectraflame paint, matte black and Redline
deco and light smoke tinted windows. Superior speed is supported with
traditional race style Real Riders tires. It’s a Boss that’s as boss as boss
gets.”
Yes, that last line had us wondering… who proofs this?
Brief History of the RLC:
The Red Line Club – often just referred to as the RLC – was first
brought about in 2002. In that year they had 3 membership cars. Each was the iconic
’67 Camaro. Each was chrome in color but had different stripes, red, blue and
black. The red stripe was most rare with
only 5,000 produced. The blue and black striped ones had 10,000 produced.
In that year they released what was known as the “Series One”
cars. There were 14 cars in Series One. They also released 11 other cars and
non-numbered Mobile Oil 4-car series that were not part of Series One.
In subsequent years, the releases were known as Series Two,
Three, Four, Five and so on. Thus the 2021 year is the “Series 19” mix.
